What is the Mission of Kids' Chance of Pennsylvania?

Kids' Chance of Pennsylvania, Inc. (Kids' Chance of PA) provides scholarship grants for college and vocational education to children of Pennsylvania workers who have been killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident resulting in financial need. The hardships to children and families created by the death or serious disability of a parent often include financial ones, making it difficult for deserving young people to pursue their educational dreams.

How many scholarships were awarded this year?

For the 2016-2017 year, Kids’ Chance of PA awarded 57 scholarships for a total of $186,500.

How many scholarships have been awarded since 1997?

Kids' Chance of PA granted its first scholarship in 1997. Since then, scholarships totaling $1,715,500 have been awarded to 745 deserving students who were admitted to post-secondary institutions.

Who may apply for a Kids’ Chance of PA scholarship grant?

To be eligible for a scholarship grant, applicants must have a parent who has been killed or seriously injured as a result of a work related accident that meets the criteria of the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Act and that has resulted in demonstrated financial need. Applicants must be within the ages of 16 to 25 and be admitted/enrolled in an accredited, post-secondary educational institution. Graduate students are not eligible to apply.

How does Kids' Chance of PA raise funds?

Scholarship funds for Kids' Chance of PA come through fully tax-deductible donations from individuals, companies, foundations, the United Way and various organizations active in workers' compensation matters and/or providing higher education opportunities to young Pennsylvanians. Annual golf outings raise additional scholarship funds.

What is the Kids’ Chance of PA Corporate & Community Partner Program?

Kids' Chance of PA raises funds for operational support through the Corporate and Community Partner Program. Partners include insurance companies, third party administrators, law firms, health and rehabilitation related organizations and professional associations such as the Workers' Compensation section of the Pennsylvania Bar and the Pennsylvania Self-Insurers' Association. Partners make contributions at the following levels:   Senior Partners ($10,000 annual contribution), Junior Partners ($ 5,000 annual contribution), Sophomore Partners ($ 2,500 annual contribution), and Freshman Partners ($ 1,000 annual contribution).

What is the Kids’ Chance of PA Scholars program?

The Scholars Program sponsor will contribute a minimum of $25,000.00 over a period of not more than five years. As a Scholars Program sponsor, you or your organization may name the scholarship and recommend that it be awarded to a student pursuing a particular field of study. At least ninety percent (90%) of the Scholars Program contribution will directly fund scholarships for deserving students.
